Strength in weaknesses

Read 2 Corinthians 13:4

Strength and independence are characteristics that it seems we as human beings have idolized since the beginning of time.

From the independent thinking of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden to trust in their own strength and rationale, over the wisdom and instruction of God, to simply holding tears in when we cry or proving to the world that we can do what we probably shouldn’t.

The Christian novel, “The Shack” speaks to this humanistic attitude, when the God character in the novel states,
“ People are tenacious when it comes to the treasure of their imaginary
independence. They hoard and hold their sickness with a firm grip. They find their identity and worthy in their brokenness and guard it with every ounce of strength they have
… In that sense you have tried to lock the door of your heart from the inside
… My love is a lot stronger than your stupidity… I use your choices to work perfectly into my purposes. There are many folks… who end up locking themselves into a very small place with a monster that will ultimately betray them, that will not fill or deliver what they thought it would…. The very treasure they trusted in will become their undoing… My purposes are always and only an expression of love. I purpose to work life out
of death, to bring freedom out of brokenness and turn darkness into light. What you as chaos, I see as a fractal.” (Pg. 189-190)

The strength and independence that we develop within ourselves is not enough to meet the needs of our heart and activate full life within our journey. It is only God who can move mountains, decide with ultimate knowledge and authority and fill every gap that gapes wide open within our souls.

Dependence is strength; because it is when we bring our weakness and
shortcomings before God that His strength can be made known.

Depend on Him fully on Him today! He won’t disappoint you.
